What Is The Best Equipment For Lifting Heavy Loads?

Crane

For businesses running industrial sites such as factories, plants or even warehouses, there needs to be proper consideration given to lifting equipment (such as toe jack or hoisting gear) that is kept on site. There are a number of reasons why this is the case – including to shift large parts, vehicles, machinery or equipment from one location to another, or as a safety precaution if heavy loads need to be lifted quickly.

If a heavy load has fallen on someone, it may be the only way to get it off the worker and save their life. There are also other reasons too, such as a mechanic or engineer needing to perform safety or maintenance checks underneath heavy machinery. Irrespective of the industry that your business is in, every industrial site should have some sort of equipment for heavy lifting available. The problem, however, is deciding which gear is the best for the job. There are a variety of options available, after all, but two of the main branches of engineering that are associated with such equipment are mechanical and hydraulic (pneumatics). Two respective examples of these engineering principles within the context of lifting heavy loads would be machine skates and the hydraulic jack. These two together are a good example of how both mechanisms and pneumatics can be used to aid in the lifting and movement of heavy items. For example, a jack can be used to lift up a load to allow the skates to be applied for moving the load; so the jack lifts, and the skates move. There are a number of ways and combinations that can be used to ensure that materials, machine parts, equipment or other heavy loads can be lifted and moved whilst adhering to these basic engineering principles.

Within the branches of the mechanical, we have the likes of load moving skates and the simple garage jack. Skates have been built with the ability to transport heavy loads when placed down on top of them, but they cannot jack up heavy loads from the ground. This is where a jack can come in handy. Whilst the standard mechanical garage trolley jacks can rarely lift more than 5 tons, the likes of a hydraulic toe jack can make use of force-generated pressure to potentially lift hundreds of tons. Whilst toe jacks are not the only hydraulic equipment for lifting, they are undoubtedly the best available. Bottle jacks use similar dynamics, but don’t have a great ground clearance; whilst toe jacks can work on heavy loads that have both high and low ground clearance. Outside of jacks and skates, there are also the likes of mobile cranes which can also lift heavy loads and move them to another location via hooks. Additionally, for those industrial sites with good ceiling space, hoist rings can also be used to lift large loads via indoor cranes.

So as you can see, there are a number of products and methods for lifting heavy loads. However, the easiest and simplest combination that won’t take up much storage space is that of the toe jack and moving skates. Whilst easy to store away in a locker, these small items can lift and move hundreds of tons – making them the most efficient equipment to use when lifting heavy loads.
